Symbionts to control the invasive mosquito species Aedes koreicus

W-KORE

W-KORE is a PRIN PNRR project carried out in collaboration with the University of Camerino (UNICAM). The project investigates the biology of the invasive mosquito Aedes koreicus, a recently established species in Europe that may play a growing role in the transmission of mosquito-borne diseases.

Our research explores how Aedes koreicus interacts with its native microbial symbionts, how it tolerates different temperatures, and how these factors influence its capacity to host and transmit viruses.

The ultimate goal is to translate this knowledge into innovative and sustainable control strategies, leveraging symbionts and ecological insights to better manage invasive mosquito populations in the context of climate change and global health challenges.
